Boeing announced on Tuesday that it paid $70 million to SES Americom during the third quarter to terminate the AMC-23 contract relating to the firm's in-flight broadband Internet service, Connexion by Boeing.

Boeing had previously announced in August that it would stop offering the service. Of the total amount paid, $49 million will be recognized into revenue for the third quarter of 2006, with the remaining $21 million left for the fourth quarter.

The service will stop operating at the end of 2006.
