KEY POINTS

  • Donald Trump and Mary Trump were never close
  • Donald Trump and Mary Trump appeared on a meme last year
  • Mary Trump allegedly called the POTUS an idiot

Donald Trump’s critics previously created a highly-convincing meme that seemingly quoted the POTUS’ late mother, Mary Trump.

The meme was released in December while rumors were swirling that Melania Trump’s husband was going to be impeached.

Trump and his mom are depicted against a black and white background, along with Mary’s cryptic words about her son.

“Yes, he’s an idiot with zero common sense, and no social skills but he is my son. I just hope he never goes into politics. He’d be a disaster,” Mary allegedly said.

However, Snopes revealed that it is unlikely for Mary to have said the words that are being linked to her. After all, Trump’s mom died on Aug. 7, 2000 when her son wasn’t the president of the United States yet.

The publication also scoured through various sources to find Mary’s previous interviews where she could’ve called the POTUS an idiot, but there was none.

Politico journalist Peter Lovenheim previously revealed that Trump didn’t grow up with a close bond with both of his parents. As such, his lack of guidance and support at such a young age may have made him the person that he is today.

“The biographical record is fairly strong on Trump’s failure to develop a healthy emotional attachment to either of his parents. It may have contributed to his tumultuous personal life, but it also endowed him with some traits that made him well-suited to his late-career entry in politics,” he wrote.

Trump’s dad, Fred, wasn’t a hands-on dad. In fact, his life was centered mostly on growing his real estate business. When the POTUS became a father himself, his ex-wives revealed that he wasn’t a very hands-on dad either.

And when the president was still very young, his mom suffered from complications following the birth of her youngest child. As such, Trump didn’t experience what it was like to always have his mom around.
