Egypt has dispatched additional troops, tanks and other armored vehicles into the restive Sinai peninsula, just days after 16 of its border guards were killed nu suspected Islamic militants on the region.

Cairo military officials have also started sealing off tunnels which lead to Gaza, governed by the Palestinian Hamas organization. These conduits, which reportedly number in the hundreds, have been used to smuggle goods, weapons and people into Gaza.
