Empire Andre
Is Andre (Trai Byers, left) going to be killed off "Empire"? Reports are surfacing that Byers doesn't want to be on the show anymore. Pictured: Andre with Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) on "Empire" Season 2. Fox

Fox's "Empire" is known for its on-screen drama, but it appears as though some drama has started to move off-screen. Trai Byers, who stars on the show as Andre, reportedly wants to leave the show because he's not happy with the direction the series is heading in. He also believes that his acting abilities are not being utilized enough. If Byers chooses to walk away from "Empire," what will the show decide to do Andre?

Page Six reports that Byers no longer wants to be a part of "Empire." A source said Byers feels like the character is beneath him and that he looks at himself as a "thespian."

"At first, being on ‘Empire’ was major for him. But he feels his character is not as important this season, and he hates not being the star," the source revealed. "He thinks he has the acting chops of Taraji [P. Henson] and Terrence [Howard]. He doesn’t get how the show benefits him, and he feels he has way too much talent when he’s not the star by any means.”

There were also allegations that Byers had a tantrum on set while filming Season 2 because his character isn't used enough, and that he would consider leaving. The producers of "Empire" are reportedly willing to let him walk if that's what he chooses to do.

If Byers does decide to leave the hip hop drama, it will be interesting to see what the show decides to do with Andre. Andre is one of the three sons of Lucious (Howard) and Cookie Lyon (Henson), but the stories of Jamal (Jussie Smollett) and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) have dominated most of Season 2. On the show, Andre battles with bipolar disorder but has been better since he found God. Andre was expecting a baby with his wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday), but that might have changed after she was shoved down a flight of stairs in the midseason finale. Right now, it's unclear if Rhonda and her baby survived the fall.

The show could do a few things with Andre if Byers quits. They can have Andre get sent away to a mental institution due to having a breakdown if he loses his baby, or the show can take the "Game of Thrones" route by choosing to kill him off.

Aside from losing a main character, Byers leaving the show could also have an affect on another character. Byers is engaged to actress Grace Gealey, who plays Anika. Anika will have a key part when "Empire" returns because she's likely the one that pushed Rhonda down the stairs, and she's pregnant with Hakeem's child, which he isn't aware of yet. If Byers leaves the show will Gealey also want to exit? The story on the show will also be interesting if Andre learns about Anika's evil act when Season 2 continues.
