James Paxton and Tyler Young’s chemistry on “Eyewitness” is so perfect that some fans thought that the two have known each other for a long time before they were cast on USA Network’s newest thriller. The truth, however, is that the pair met each other for the first time just before they started shooting the series.

While live-tweeting last night’s Season 1, episode 2, titled “Bless the Beast and the Children,” Paxton and Young were asked by a fan if they knew each other before they began filming. Paxton replied to the fan, revealing that he and Young first met during a chemistry read.

“No!” replied Paxton who plays Lukas Waldenback in the series. “We actually met during my first chemistry read. Tyler was already cast [as Philip Shea], but we started hangin right after that!”

While Paxton and Young now seem to be close with one another, their onscreen personas are yet to become more intimate with one another. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Paxton said that Lukas will become less violent towards Philip and start to care more about him in future episodes.

“I wanted the audience to hate Lukas for a little while,” Paxton said of his decision to play his character as a short-tempered and aggressive teenager in the first few episodes of the series. “When something scares you so deeply that you’re so vulnerable, the first reaction is to be physical and push back or be violent. It’s just an outward projection.”

Paxton revealed that Lukas will eventually redeem himself. “By around episode 6 [titled ‘The Yellow Couch’], Lukas breaks your heart, and it’s all forgiven,” teased Paxton, who is actually the son of actor Bill Paxton. “He really makes it up to Philip in a big way. He sacrifices something huge of his own for [him].”

“Eyewitness’” next episode, titled “Bella, Bella. Bella,” airs on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 10 p.m. ET on USA. Check out the synopsis for Season 1, episode 3 below:
