The entertainment industry lit up Tuesday when presidential hopeful Joe Biden officially named Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) his running mate in this year’s election.

Many celebrities like Kerry Washington, LeBron James, Taylor Swift, and John Legend shared their reactions on social media after hearing the news.

Washington believes that it is a great moment for the people of the U.S. as Harris became the first Black woman to be a Vice-President nominee of a major party. She also shared that the particular news will bring hope to the children who are dreaming of becoming something “bigger” in the future.

“Overwhelmed by this historic moment. @KamalaHarris is the first Black woman and first Asian-American/Indian to be a VP nominee of a major party,” Washington wrote. “My heart is soaring for all the kids out there who see themselves in her and will dream bigger because of this . #KamalaHarrisForVP,” Washington wrote on Twitter.

James, the iconic NBA player, congratulated Harris after the announcement and also appreciated Biden for making such a wonderful decision.

“Congrats and well deserved Sen. Kamala Harris!! Love to see and support it! Appreciate you JB,” James tweeted.

Actress Viola Davis could not contain her excitement and shared a dancing GIF of Harris to celebrate the announcement. She also noted that it is indeed a “happy birthday” for her after hearing the news.

“Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me!! Happy birthday dear Viola!!! I am strapped up!!!” Davis wrote.

Meanwhile, Legend was really “happy” for his friend and “future vice president.” The musician also explained that he is ready to vote for the duo of Biden and Harris, so that the whole country could recover from a “nightmare presidency.”

“Very happy for our friend and Senator and future Vice-President, @KamalaHarris, and very much looking forward to voting for the Biden-Harris ticket to begin the difficult work of recovering from this nightmare presidency and building an even better future,” Legend wrote.

On the other hand, the “Folklore” hitmaker reacted to the news by writing “YES” on the micro-blogging platform.

Biden announced on his official Twitter account that it is an “honor” for her to pick Harris as his running mate because he considers her a “fearless fighter.”

“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris – a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants – as my running mate,” Biden tweeted.
