LA Fitness is gearing up to start reopening its clubs with its first locations opening their doors on Monday.

Gyms will reopen in Arizona first, followed LA Fitness’ Georgia locations, which will reopen on Friday. LA Fitness said more locations are expected to reopen in the next few weeks.

LA Fitness, which has over 200 gyms located across the U.S., was forced to close all of its clubs in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. The company stopped billing its members as a result of the closures.

To ensure that gym members are protected from the spread of COVID-19, LA Fitness has implemented a number of safety measures at its gyms. The company will be practicing social distancing and will reduce the number of people allowed inside its clubs at any one time.

Club members will only be allowed to enter an LA Fitness gym one at a time and wait for a distance of six feet before another member can be allowed admittance. Check-in will be touchless for all members, using either a key tag or mobile app scanning device.

A series of hand sanitation stations will be provided throughout the gym for members and to wipe down equipment. Fitness machines will also be disinfected frequently, and some machines will be closed off or moved to allow for social distancing.

Locker rooms will have every sixth locker available for use to also promote social distancing. LA Fitness’ pools, kid clubs, workout rooms, and group fitness areas may be closed, depending on local coronavirus requirements.

The company is also urging gym members that have COVID-19 symptoms to stay home. At some locations, temperature checks and screening will be provided to members prior to entry into the clubs. Employees and members are also encouraged to wear a mask and gloves, which will be available at all gym locations, and may be required by city and local governments.

LA Fitness asks members to bring their own towel to help reduce the use of paper products, which are in short supply because of the coronavirus pandemic. Yoga mats will also not be provided to club members.
