A man who brutally hacked his son during a dispute over the use of a toilet, causing him a skull fracture and lacerations to the head, pleaded guilty Thursday.

Wong Pak-Chung, 78, admitted to attacking his 31-year-old son, Wong Wa-lee, while the latter was staying with him at a residence in the Yau Tong area in Hong Kong on Oct. 2, 2020. Pak-Chung said he had slashed his son with a knife for refusing to get out of the toilet and making him wait outside for more than 15 minutes, reported news outlet South China Morning Post.

When Pak-Chung returned from work on the day of the attack, his son was smoking in the bathroom with the door open and ignored his request to use the toilet. In a fit of rage, Pak-Chung took a knife from the kitchen and attacked his son without any warning.

The son tried to push his father out of the bathroom and calm him down but did not succeed. Wa-lee was slashed on his head, neck and upper body before he was able to run into a bedroom and call the police.

When the police arrived, Pak-Chung answered the door in blood-stained clothes. The officers found the living room, bathroom and bedroom covered in blood. Pak-Chung told police what had happened and Wa-lee was rushed to a hospital.

Wa-lee sustained multiple injuries, including an 8-centimeter laceration to his head and cuts to his neck, shoulder, arm and elbow. His muscles were also torn and partially visible through the deep gashes. He had to undergo an emergency operation and was hospitalized for 27 days, ABS-CBN News said in a report.

Pak-Chung, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to one count of wounding with intent, which is punishable by life in prison. He is scheduled to face his sentencing at a District Court on Aug. 6.

The court will sentence after considering reports on his medical condition and family relationship to see if this was an isolated incident. The jail term for wounding with intent is capped at seven years when the case is heard at the District Court.
