KEY POINTS

  • Ronaldo netted 24 goals for Man Utd last season
  • He has another year left on his contract with Man Utd
  • Man Utd finished the 2021-22 season without a single trophy

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly not available for a transfer in the underway summer window.

Ronaldo's representatives have been in talks with Europe's top clubs and the Portuguese forward has been linked with moves to Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). However, Manchester United have informed Ronaldo that they want him to stay at Old Trafford for another season at least, reported ESPN.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner moved from Juventus to Manchester United in the summer of 2021. He still has a year left on his current contract with an option to extend by a year. In 39 competitive appearances, Ronaldo netted 24 goals and provided three assists for the Red Devils last season.

Unfortunately, Manchester United finished the campaign without a trophy and also did not secure the Champions League spot for the 2022-23 season. The Red Devils now have been without a trophy for five straight seasons, with their last one coming in the 2016-17 term when they won the Europa League.

Ronaldo is into his second stint at Manchester United. He first represented them from 2003 to 2009 when he won the Premier League and Champions League and had clinched his first Ballon d'Or award.

It is believed that Erik ten Hag, who is set to lead his first day of preseason training at Carrington on Monday, is counting on having Ronaldo in his squad next season.

Roma was one of the clubs interested in Ronaldo. The deal would not only see the celebrated forward's return to Italy but also reunite him with his former boss Jose Mourinho, according to Gazetta dello Sport. The former Real Madrid star won two La Liga titles with Los Blancos and one of those titles came under Mourinho.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are chasing two midfielders: Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen. While they are waiting for Eriksen's decision, the Red Devils are close to sealing the deal for FC Barcelona's De Jong.
