Marvel confirmed that Chadwick Boseman would play "Black Panther" in a 2017 film. It also unveiled the rest of its post-"Avengers 2" film slate including "Captain America: Civil War," "Thor: Ragnarok," and a two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" saga. Reuters

Marvel Studios has announced its lineup beyond next year's “Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.” Confirmed are films based on popular comic book crossovers like “Captain America: Civil War” and the “Infinity” saga, as well as adventures for a number of individual heroes new to the cinema.

Chadwick Boseman’s casting as “Black Panther” was perhaps the biggest surprise Marvel unveiled at the San Diego Comic Con Tuesday, but it was not the last. Marvel, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Co., is also working on solo adventures for “Captain Marvel” and “Doctor Strange.”

Benedict Cumberbatch is reportedly in negotiations to play Stephen Strange, a gifted surgeon who learns to become a “sorcerer supreme” after an accident damages his hands. The full slate will include “Captain America: Civil War” and “Doctor Strange” in 2016, “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” “Thor: Ragnorok,” (based on Marvel’s interpretation of the Norse apocalyptic tale) and “Black Panther” in 2017.

The Avengers team will have to fight an “Infinity War” in the third film in the franchise, due for release in 2018 along with “Captain Marvel” and “The Inhumans,” with 2019 bringing “Avengers 4” or “Avengers: Infinity War Part II.” “Age of Ultron” is scheduled for release May 1, 2015.

Marvel also confirmed suspicions that while Robert Downey Jr. would appear in "Captain America: Civil War," the studio has no plans for "Iron Man 4."
