Daubing the sky with green and red colors, Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis stunned skywatchers across North America and other northern regions Monday (Oct. 24).

According to the Space Weather Prediction Center, a massive solar storm Saturday caused the Northern Lights. It took two days for the solar particles to reach Earth's atmosphere.

Auroras are caused when charged solar particles hit Earth's atmosphere.
