An Oklahoma man has been charged with rape after taking his pregnant 12-year-old "girlfriend" to a hospital to deliver their baby.

Juan Miranda-Jara, of Tulsa County, was charged with first-degree rape Tuesday for impregnating a 12-year-old girl whose identity has not been revealed, reported Latin Times.

The incident came to light on July 14 after the 24-year-old man walked into the Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa with his nine months pregnant "girlfriend" all excited to deliver their child. Hospital authorities called police to report a case of a potential rape victim. When police arrived, Miranda-Jara proudly admitted that he was the child's father and was reportedly confused why he was being apprehended.

"They walked in just like any other couple would, excited to deliver their newborn child," Danny Bean, a Tulsa police officer, told Fox 23.

The baby was born healthy without any complications.

Investigators are now trying to determine how the minor's pregnancy was carried to term without being reported to authorities. The Child Crisis Division of the Tulsa Police Department, along with investigators, are probing how the girl came into contact with Miranda-Jara and how he was allowed to have a sexual relationship with the underage girl.

No further details about the relationship are known at this point. According to Baller Alert, police do not suspect this as a case of incest based on evidence.

"We know there are many people in the community who are shocked by this, grossed out by this, disturbed by this, have questions, a whole range of emotions," Bean said. "But in time, we will be able to give the community the answers they want. We just don't have all the answers right now to give them, and we don't want to compromise the investigation that's still happening and really just now getting started."

Miranda-Jara could face more charges related to his relationship with the underaged mother, police said. He currently is being held on a $50,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on August 26.
