Peanut Butter Recall Expands To 14 Other Sunland Inc. Brands After Trader Joe’s Brand Recalled [FULL LIST]

Trader Joe’s isn’t the only peanut butter brand recalled this week due to salmonella outbreak. The large-scale recall, which first only affected the store-brand Valencia peanut butter at Trader Joe’s, also extended to 76 other products of peanut and almond butter with flaxseed at stores around the country on Tuesday.

Sunland Inc., the New Mexico-based company which produces the Trader Joe’s brand, issued a longer list of peanut and almond butter affected under the initial recall on Tuesday. According to Sunland, any brand of peanut butter or almond butter produced by the company with expirations dates from May 1, 2013 through Sept. 24, 2013 is part of the recall.

A Sunland spokeswoman said illnesses due to the salmonella outbreak have only been reported from the Trader Joe’s brand, but the company is issuing the voluntary recall on its entire product line “out of an abundance of caution.” Sunland said its peanut butter products were manufactured using the same equipment as the recalled Trader Joe’s. Brands affected by the recall affect Sunland and Trader Joe’s brands as well as Archer Farms sold in Target, fresh & easy, heinen’s, Naturally More and Sprout’s, to name a few. A full list of peanut and almond butter brands affected under the recall are listed below. No other Sunland products were recalled.

On Saturday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a recall for Trader Joe’s store brand Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter sold in grocery stores across the country. According to the CDC, 29 people in 18 states from Washington to Maryland were sickened with salmonella from the recalled peanut butter.

"We have no confirmed information that suggests this peanut butter is unsafe to eat, but there is nothing more important to us than the health and safety of our customers and crew, and the quality of our products," Trader Joe’s said on Friday. "As such, if you purchased this product, please do not eat it. We encourage you to return the product to any Trader Joe's for a full refund or dispose of it."

The Trader Joe’s peanut butter, "Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter," is sold in a 16-ounce plastic jar with the product code “97111” with the expiration dates June 11 to Sept. 2.

The CDC said people need to "dispose of any remaining jars of peanut butter in the home or return the product to any Trader Joe's grocery store.”

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted tests at the Sunland production facilities on Saturday.

Below is a full list of the 76 peanut butter and almond butter products under the recall. The “Best-If-Used-By” dates, according to Sunland, are between May 1, 2013 and Sept. 24, 2013. Consumers who have purchased products with matching UPC and Best-If-Used-By-Dates show throw products away.
