Eleven of Picasso’s artworks, which had been on display at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, sold at the Sotheby’s auction Saturday for close to $110 million.

The hotel and casino had the Picasso art on display at its French eatery “Picasso” restaurant. The collection was started 20 years ago by Steve Wynn, the former owner and chief executive of Wynn Resorts.

The auction took place two days before Pablo Picasso’s birthday. The painter and sculptor was born in Malaga, Spain, on Oct. 25, 1881. Picasso died in 1973.

The sold artworks consisted of paintings and ceramic pieces. “Femme au beret rouge-orange,” was the highest-selling portrait, which went for $40.5 million -- about $10 million more than its estimated price. It is a painting from 1938 of Picasso’s lover and muse Marie-Therese Walter.

The large portraits "Homme et Enfant" and "Buste d'homme" sold for $24.4 million and $9.5 million, respectively. The smaller ceramic artworks, like "Le Dejeuner sur l'herbe," sold for $2.1 million. Some pieces sold for three to four times more than estimated.

The buyers' names have been kept private, Reuters noted.

The Picasso restaurant will still display 12 of his works.

Casino and hotel group MGM Resorts sold the paintings to incorporate a more diverse selection of artwork that will include works from women, people of all different races, disabilities and LGBTQ artists.
