Ohio Woman Dead Two Days Following George Floyd Protest In Columbus

A 22-year-old fresh Ohio State University graduate died two days after attending a George Floyd protest in Columbus. The young woman was reportedly exposed to tear gas and pepper spray which police used to disperse the crowd. The autopsy report said that's he suffered a cardiac arrest upon arrival at the hospital but her cause of death is still under investigation.

The Attorney General's office has finished the investigation on George Floyd's death and is expected to announce the decision regarding the filing of additional charges against ex-cop Derek Chauvin who is currently facing third degree murder and second degree manslaughter charges. Meanwhile, authorities are still examining the charges that might be filed against the three other cops who were present on the scene.

Florida Cop Placed On Leave After Pinning Down Black Man’s Neck In Custody

A Florida cop was placed on leave after a video surfaced of him with two officers arresting a black man charged with possessing ammunition on May 18. The officer was seen kneeling on the suspect's neck. The suspect was taken to jail afterwards and did not require medical attention. The incident happened a week before George Floyd's death.

Coronavirus-Related Inflammatory Condition Among Children In UK, Reported In US

A multi-inflammatory condition among children which was first reported in the U.K. is now reported in the U.S. Many of these cases come from New York and one of those cases was an 8-year-old boy from Queens who experienced fever before going into cardiac arrest. He survived the ordeal and it was found out that although he tested negative for the coronavirus, he was positive for the antibodies. It is believed that this multi-inflammatory condition may or may not be associated with the virus.

Shutdown Of Largest Media Network In The Philippines Amid COVID-19 Displaces 11K Workers

The Philippines' government telecommunications agency issued the shutdown order of ABS-CBN, the country's largest media network amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The station had been facing threats of license to operate suspension since early 2020 due to various issues such as foreign ownership, tax evasion and malicious reports against the Duterte administration which had all been clarified. The station's 11,000 employees of the station face unemployment amid the outbreak and the local journalist groups condemn the order for violating press freedom.

LA, First US Major City To Offer Free COVID-19 Tests To All Residents

Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the city is offering free COVID-19 tests to all residents, making it the first major US city to do so. The tests would be done by online appointment and would be available to all L.A. city residents whether or not they show symptoms but would still prioritize symptomatic people and frontline workers. For now, the free tests would be available only to city residents but a similar plan is being developed for L.A. County.

Pentagon’s DARPA Plans To Create COVID-19 'Temporary Vaccine' Until Regular Vaccine Is Developed

DARPA is working on a "temporary vaccine" that would serve as a "firebreak" that would provide immunity for several months until a regular vaccine is made available. The researchers used two different methods to manufacture and clone the most potent antibodies of coronavirus patient survivors. The temporary treatment would provide protection to frontline workers and first responders to COVID-19 hotspots. The researchers have invested in technology that would shorten the process from several years to only several weeks and they plan to hold clinical trials in the summer.
