A March 15 video of a black store owner from Alabama getting punched by a cop circulated all over social media during the weekend. The owner reported a robbery and the responding officer mistook him for the suspect. The owner was armed and allegedly informed by the police beforehand that he was holding the suspect at gunpoint.

A Florida cop was placed on leave after a video surfaced of him with two officers arresting a black man charged with possessing ammunition on May 18. The officer was seen kneeling on the suspect's neck. The suspect was taken to jail afterwards and did not require medical attention. The incident happened a week before George Floyd's death.

Two homeless men were found dead within a 12-hour period in the NYC subways. Authorities were alarmed and were wondering whether these deaths were COVID-19-related or other factors were involved.

A Pennsylvania doctor and her team of volunteers conducted free COVID-19 testing to local communities in Philadelphia who have limited access to tests.

Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the city is offering free COVID-19 tests to all residents, making it the first major US city to do so. The tests would be done by online appointment and would be available to all L.A. city residents whether or not they show symptoms but would still prioritize symptomatic people and frontline workers. For now, the free tests would be available only to city residents but a similar plan is being developed for L.A. County.

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc., in partnership with German-based company BioNTech, announced that its COVID-19 vaccine would be ready for tests next week and should they show favorable results, would be distributed for emergency use by fall.

DARPA is working on a "temporary vaccine" that would serve as a "firebreak" that would provide immunity for several months until a regular vaccine is made available. The researchers used two different methods to manufacture and clone the most potent antibodies of coronavirus patient survivors. The temporary treatment would provide protection to frontline workers and first responders to COVID-19 hotspots. The researchers have invested in technology that would shorten the process from several years to only several weeks and they plan to hold clinical trials in the summer.
