UFC superstar Conor McGregor recently revealed how he got “obsessed” with fashion and being fancy.

In MMA, McGregor is arguably the only fighter who likes to flaunt his taste for fashion. Everytime McGregor will be seen outside the cage, there’s a good chance that he could be rocking outfits worth an insane worth of dollars.

For the very first time, McGregor shared the real story behind his unique obsession with fancy materials in fashion. During an interview with GQ, McGregor talked about his one-of-a-kind first UFC paycheck story. According to the UFC superstar, he pocketed a total of $80,000 after his first UFC match. A “chunk” of that money was handed by him to his mother and what he did next is not what a normal professional fighter would do.

McGregor revealed that right after he gave some money to his mother, he went straight to a tailor in Dublin. He then shared what he has learned from his father about “tailored suits.”

"The second thing was going to a tailor in Dublin city centre. My father, growing up, had always said, 'You know you're successful when you’ve got a fully tailored suit.' That stuck in my head for so many years. I went straight into a suit store called Louis Copeland & Sons – it’s famous here on Irish soil,” McGregor revealed.

It was in the said suit store where McGregor spent “eight” hours talking to the tailors and customizing his suit.

"I spent about eight hours in there, talking and chatting. They kitted me out with suits. I wanted a fully custom-made, tailored suit on my skin, that feeling of success,” McGregor recalled.

The 31-year-old Irish fighter also details how he brought “dickie bows” to the UFC.

"At that time, I brought in dickie bows. I was in the prelims on the UFC card and the prelim fighters don't get brought to the press conference. You go in, you get some money, you fight, you get out of there. But I knew I was different,” McGregor stated.

As for McGregor, he knew he was going to rise to the occasion and will be called for a post-fight press conference. During this time was also when he was reminded of what his grandfather told him.

"I knew I was going to steal the show. I knew I was going to secure the knockout and I knew I was going to get called to the post-fight press conference. So I packed in a dickie bow. And I packed in my grandfather's coat. They say a good suit is like a plate of armour. I well believe it. It wasn’t a full suit, but it gave me that plate of armour and that confidence," McGregor noted.

McGregor still hasn’t announced his official return to UFC yet. However, UFC president Dana White said that McGregor is just waiting for the outcome of the Khabib vs. Poirier match as well as his former rival Nate Diaz’s bout against Anthony Pettis.
