When “The Voice” Season 17 premieres, viewers will see a singing competition full of surprises. The series will feature the return of a Grammy Award-winning mentor, as well as, some tension between Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.

On Monday, NBC announced Taylor Swift will be returning to the show as a “Mega Mentor,” to help the judges with their contestants. Swift made her debut on the series in the same role during Season 7.

In a press release, the network revealed Swift will help judges, Shelton, Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend during the Knockout Rounds.

“As ‘The Voice’ Mega Mentor, Taylor will join coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani to mentor the artists and prepare each team for the Knockout Rounds, which will begin airing in late October,” the press released revealed.

“During the Knockout Rounds, the artists will be paired with a teammate and select their own songs to perform individually. Taylor will be on hand to work with all four coaches and their teams to provide feedback, suggestions, and praise as the artists prepare for their performance.”

However, it will be up to the coaches to choose the winner. The artist that wasn’t selected will be available to be stolen by another coach.

News of Swift’s addition to the series comes amid the release of a sneak peek of the upcoming season. In the video, Stefani admitted she was concerned the competition would cause issues in her relationship with her boyfriend, Shelton.

“I didn’t know if it was gonna feel awkward to be fighting against him,” she confesses to the camera.

However, it seems the “Cool” singer may be the one who causes trouble. In the clip, Stefani is seen blocking Shelton from getting an artist, while shocking her fellow judges with the clever move.

“The Voice” Season 17 premieres Monday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
