Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been blessed with a healthy baby boy named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated their first wedding anniversary just days after their son was born. Even though it is unlikely for the royal couple to divorce, royal fans are wondering what would happen to their son when this happens.

On the online forum site Quora, one royal fan said that Prince Harry and Markle don’t have full custody of their son at the moment because it is Queen Elizabeth II who has custody of Archie. When she dies, the royal couple won’t still have custody of their son because this responsibility will be passed on to Her Majesty’s heir, Prince Charles.

But things would change if Prince Harry and Markle divorce. When this happens, the “Suits” alum would be allowed to live anywhere she pleases. But since her son is still technically a member of the royal family even though he doesn’t have a title, he would be required to live in the United Kingdom.

For this reason, Prince Harry would be residing with his son after he and Markle divorced. But even if Markle would not be living with her son, she will most likely be given access to Archie anytime she pleases.

Maddy Bernasco, a royal fan, likened the situation with what happened to Prince Charles and Princess Diana. After the couple divorced, Prince William and Prince Harry continued to live in the palace with Prince Charles. But Princess Diana still kept in contact with her two sons.

It is unlikely for royal children, especially someone like Prince William who is an heir to the throne, to reside with the mom if she only became an official member of the royal family after marriage.

Melissa Marshall said that she’s wondering if Prince Harry informed Markle that she can’t take their children if and when they decide to divorce.

“She might have thought twice before marrying him if she had realized she will never have custody of any children with him,” she said.
