“The Witcher” is a highly anticipated Netflix series about a monster hunter who struggles to find a place in the world. A trailer of the series has already revealed Henry Cavill as the lead Geralt of Rivia.

After the books about Geralt became a big hit, the franchise exploded with the making of video games. However, the TV series will not be based on the games. In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Lauren Hissrich confirmed that the show is a straight adaption of the books, and they are not looking at the content in the games as a source material.

One aspect from the book that they have adapted to the show is that there are many morally ambiguous characters on the show, but there isn’t a big villain to fight. The producer teased that the fans will be forced to constantly switch allegiances while watching the show.

“ The characters you’re rooting for in the beginning may not be the characters you’re rooting for in the end,” Hissrich teased. As far as the “evil” characters in “The Witcher” are concerned, the producer explained that they are guided by relatable, human, and emotional motivations that may make the audience feel empathy for them.

Although the story is an adaptation of the books, the show will still have some secrets. Hissrich did not want to reveal the secrets of the first season just yet. One thing she did tease is that the TV series will have many monsters. And these monsters are apparently “integral” to the story.

Apart from Geralt, the two other major characters on the show are Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allan). The trailer of the show teased Yennefer’s look evolving in the first season.

Why is Vennefer’s look changing? The character is a sorceress who will be in a position to change her looks over time in “The Witcher” as she gains more power, Screen Rant reported.
