Alibaba Group's cloud computing unit is in talks with Qualcomm to develop chipsets for lower-end smartphones using Alibaba's self-developed mobile operating system, an executive said on Thursday.

Alibaba Cloud Computing is also looking to launch tablet computers using Alibaba's Cloud OS by the end of the year, Wang Jian, the unit's president, told reporters.

Alibaba Cloud launched its mobile operating system and smartphone on Thursday in order to capture a slice of the rapidly growing mobile Internet market.
