An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing 14-year-old girl after she was kidnapped from her Atlanta area residence during a home invasion on Tuesday morning. According to HLN, the FBI has been called in to assist in the search for Ayvani Hope Perez.

As HLN reports, a pair of robbers broke into the home by prying open the back door around 2:15 a.m. ET. Ayvani’s mother told authorities she tried to hide her two children, but they were eventually discovered. The two bandits demanded money and jewelry. After receiving neither, they shot the family dog and kidnapped Ayvani.

The crime took place at 3894 Brookgate Drive in Ellenwood, which is a community just southeast of Atlanta, the Associated Press reports.

Ayvani has black hair and brown eyes. According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, she is 4 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 93 pounds. She was last seen wearing blue and grey Star Wars pajama bottoms and a blue and grey superhero shirt. She was reportedly taken from the home in a gray Dodge.

Police have released sketches of the two suspects.

Authorities say the home invasion was random. “It didn’t appear that they knew each other,” Clayton County police spokesman Phong Nguyen told the Atlanta-Journal Constitution of the suspects and victims. “They just moved in about a month ago.”

The neighborhood of Ellenwood has been rocked by the crime. “It’s very scary,” Breyana Walker, 16, who lives down the street from the Perez family, said. “I’m so terrified.”

“I feel like I need someone here with me,” Walker said. “It could happen to anybody. I don’t know what to do.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is encouraging anybody with information to call 911 or the Clayton County police at 678-610-4781.
