Apple (AAPL) has placed some memory-chip orders for its upcoming iPhone with Asian chip makers and has moved away from Samsung (005930) for this component, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

Apparently, Apple has placed orders for memory chips that are used to store data in smartphones with a South Korean firm named SK Hynix Inc.

Samsung will continue to be supplier for main processor that powers iPhone. The report shows the friction among the two smartphone manufacturers as patent disputes among them continue to grow.
