Photos: India wins Cricket World Cup, team celebrates with trophy [PHOTOS]

India’s cricket team powered past rival and fellow co-host Sri Lanka to win the Cricket World Cup in front of rabid fans at the Wankhede Stadium in the city of Mumbai.  India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka co-hosted the games in 2011.

India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets.  Before this match, it beat Australia in the quarter-finals and Pakistan in the semi-finals.  In Group B, it beat Bangladesh, tied England, beat Ireland, beat the Netherlands, lost to South Africa, and beat the West Indies.

In the championship match, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, put in his best performance in the tournament and led his team to victory.
