As for Catherine, she is facing charges of aggravated mayhem, which could carry the sentence of life imprisonment.
Mayhem (or maiming) is defined as "unlawfully and maliciously" depriving a human being "a member of his body, or disables, disfigures, or renders it useless."
"It's so heinous -- we're looking at this as premeditated. Her intention was to permanently deprive him of a piece of his body and do it in such a way to inflict a great amount of pain and psychological damage," said Lt. Jeff. Nightengale, reported the Huffington Post.
The couple was married on Demceber 29, 2009. In May, the husband filed for divorce from Catherine Becker, citing "irreconcilable differences," reported KTLA.
It's unclear what exactly motivated Becker to allegedly perform this vicious attack.
