Billionaire investor Warren Buffett saw his net worth plunge 40 percent in 2008 as his holdings tumbled along with the rest of the market. Meanwhile, his annual salary remained $100,000 for the 28th straight year.

Buffet has paid himself the same salary for the past 28 years through Berkshire Hathaway Inc, which he owns. The company, in its annual report, stated that he received no bonus for the year.

Berkshire's stock fell 62 percent last year.

Buffett's overall net worth comes from his ownership to stock and bond investments. According to Forbes magazine, his wealth is $37 billion, down from $62 billion a year earlier as the recession eroded the value of his investments.

Buffett's overall annual compensation came to $491,000. He received $75,000 in director fees from firms in which his holding company has stakes. He is also provided with personal and home security services worth $315,709.
