Crispin Scott: Dartmouth Student Dies in Spain

Crispin Scott, a Dartmouth student studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain, has died, the college learned this morning.

“We learned of [Scott’s] death this morning and extend our sincere and most regrettable condolences to his family at this time. [Scott] will certainly be remembered. Efforts are focused to reach out to those who knew him, his family and certainly other students who were abroad with him in Barcelona,” said Charlotte Johnson, Dean of College at Dartmouth, reported The Dartmouth.

At this time, the school has not learned about specifically when or how Scott died, although it stated that Barcelona police are investigating the “untimely death.” The Class of 2013 student was participating in a program run by Portland State University that was scheduled to last from January to March.

According to Charles Grant, director of the program in which Scott participated, Scott failed to return to his apartment after an outing with several friends Friday evening, reported The Dartmouth. Scott’s body was then found in an apartment. The police said “there did not appear to have been any physical violence.”

Scott hails from Seattle, Wash. He was a member of the Phi Delta Alpha fraternity and Dartmouth’s men’s rugby team.

“With heavy hearts, the DRFC mourns the untimely loss of one of our own. Our thoughts are with Crispin Scott's family and friends during this difficult time,” wrote the Dartmouth Rugby Football Club on its Facebook page.

“Crispin Scott from Tokyo and Seattle, a son of our friend, passed away in Barcelona. With deep sadness we miss him and pray for his family,” tweeted @tomoikenaga.
