Beth Ditto, The Gossip Lead Singer, Arrested After Allegedly Kicking Bartender In The Groin

Beth Ditto, lead singer of The Gossip and a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights, was arrested for disorderly conduct on Friday night after reportedly kicking a bartender who threatened to cut her off.

According to the Guardian, the incident took place at the Bungalo Bar in Portland, Ore., a venue that, according to Yelp, boasts “good old school drinks, beers and food. No fancy stuff.” Ditto had allegedly become so inebriated that a bartender at the “father and son owned business” decided to cut her off.

Evidently displeased with the service, Ditto -- whose real name is Mary Beth Patterson -- reportedly marched outside onto the street and “threw off her shoes and purse.” She then allegedly began loudly protesting. When friends attempted to corral the singer into a car, she reportedly began screaming “OBAMA! OBAMA!”

A source who was present during the incident told the Willamette Week that police happened to be nearby arresting someone for graffiti when they caught wind of Ditto’s loud antics.

"The cops came," the source said. "Like 10 or 12 cars. Guy was tagging a wall down the street."

In an official report, the Portland Police Bureau confirmed that Ditto had been arrested on charges of disorderly conduct.

“Officers responded to the Bungalow Bar (4205 North Mississippi Avenue) on the report of a welfare check of a woman in front of the business shouting and blocking traffic,” the report stated. “Officers arrived and contacted Patterson standing in the middle of the street with her arms extended from her sides like an airplane, and she was shouting (unknown what) as she blocked traffic. Four cars were stopped in the road and one driver was honking his/her horn and yelling for Patterson to get out of the street.”

A poster on a Portland forum on Reddit provided an even more sordid account of the night, writing that Ditto had been “blackout drunk” and aggressive with bar patrons.

“By 1:30 Beth was completely blackout drunk challenging people to fights,” the commenter wrote, adding that after laughing at Ditto’s behavior the singer replied “DO YEW KNOW WHO UR TALKIN' TO? GOOGLE ME!"

“Fifteen minutes later she was arrested ,” the poster continued in an obscenity-laced rant. “The bartender called the police because she kicked him in balls.”

Ditto was reportedly released from jail, and awaiting a court date.
