A 13-year-old boy missing from his parents spent 11 days wandering in the subway system of New York City until a police officer found him, the New York Times reported.

The teenager is Francisco Hernandez Jr.; he suffers of Asperger's syndrome which is a form of autism. His mother, Marsiela Garcia said the boy spent most of those days underground, sleeping in subway cars, using bathrooms in stations and eating junk food.

Hernandez says he would have ridden the rails forever, the New York Times reported.

Mrs. Garcia had reached to police and the Mexican consulate to seek help to find her son. The boy's parents also distributed 2,000 missing posters in the city and had contacted the media.

The boy was finally discovered by a transit cop that recognized him after from the posters at the Coney Island station on October 26.
