In a scene like something from “The Walking Dead,” a man was found buried alive in a grave in Brazil.

According to the Daily Mail, a not-yet-identified woman was visiting her family tomb at a cemetery in the neighborhood of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, Sao Paolo, when she heard noises and then noticed the earth moving at a grave nearby. When she went over to investigate, she made a shocking discovery.

“I was terrified to see a man, who I thought was dead, trying to get out of the grave,” she said. “He had his head and hands out and was moving his arms around, trying to get out.”

As the Daily Mail points out, the woman initially screamed and ran away, but she eventually returned and called the authorities, who thought she was playing a prank.

“They kept questioning me, asking, ‘Are you serious? This is a joke, isn’t it,"' she said.

The woman enlisted cemetery officials to convince police that she was telling the truth.

As the Daily Mail points out, video footage of the rescue -- which happened about a week ago and just surfaced today -- shows rescue workers finding a man in a gray jumper half-buried in a grave. He is unresponsive, but alive.

The unidentified man has been transported to a hospital in Ferraz de Vasconcelos, where he is “coming back to life,” a source told the Daily Mail.

Authorities think the man is a former city hall worker who got into a fight and was badly beaten. His attackers took him to the local cemetery and threw him in an empty grave. The man was the victim of a “despicable vendetta,” police said.

As the Daily Mail points out, this is the second time a man has been found buried alive in Brazil in the past three months. In September, a homeless man was beaten by a group of teenagers and buried alive on Leblon Beach.
