A power outage on Sunday left one woman dead after the backup generator failed to kick in at the Eastchester Rehab and Health Care Center in Pelham

The power outage cost the life of an unidentified 49-year-old woman who was being kept alive by a ventilator. However, she was under a do-not-resuscitate, according to the Daily News.

EMS workers transported 37 patients, who were on ventilators, to surrounding hospitals.

Somebody said the generator didn't kick in when the power went out. There's patients that need support. I can't imagine when that happened, said a man with family at the rehab center, according to NY1. I'm very concerned about it. We're going to try to find out exactly what happened.

Con Ed also indicated that a faulty cable led to the power outage that left nearly 5,000 Bronx customers in the dark, according to NY1. The rehab center did not comment on the incident on Sunday.
