Tom Greer, an 80-year-old California man shot and killed one of two burglars, who entered his home, even after she pleaded with him to be spared because she was pregnant, local police said.

Police officials are yet to decide if Greer should be charged in the case, while the man, who accompanied the woman, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The case will reportedly be handed over to prosecutors on Friday, who will decide whether Greer was in “imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death” when he opened fire at the two suspects. Greer reportedly said that he shot the woman when she was trying to flee from his house in Long Beach, while the surviving suspect, Gus Adams, was unhurt.

“The lady didn’t run as fast as the man, so I shot her in the back twice,” Greer reportedly told KNBC-TV. “She says, ‘Don’t shoot me! I’m pregnant, I’m going to have a baby!’ and I shot her anyway.”

According to reports, police officials said that Andrea Miller did not seem to be pregnant adding that it could only be confirmed after an autopsy is conducted on the 28-year-old on Friday.

Long Beach police chief Jim McDonnell reportedly said Thursday that Gus Adams, 26, could be charged for murder as he was involved in the felony that led to the death of his partner-in-crime. Adams was reportedly arrested late Wednesday and has been held on bail of more than $1 million.

Greer reportedly came home Tuesday night and found two burglars -- both unarmed -- at his residence, who attacked him, causing an injury to his collar bone. Greer then managed to get hold of his gun and opened fire on the suspects.

McDonnell also said that the two suspects had been previously associated with similar crimes, while Greer, who had been burglarized three other times in the past, said that the duo could have been responsible for the earlier thefts as well.
