The 21-year-old student is applying for an NYU grant to have machines placed nearby dog parks that would turn canine waste into energy that would power park lamps, according to DNA Info.

The Green Grant that Kelemu is applying for would earn her $20,000 from NYU's sustainability task force. The grant would b used for initials costs of the project, and Kelemu would build each energy station, called a digester, for a about $2,000 each. She told DNA Info that she would build the machine using a water tank and scrap meal.
