Good news, Snapchat fans. There’s a new celebrity to follow: Zayn Malik. The former One Direction star joined the ephemeral picture/video app Friday on the same day "Pillowtalk," his first solo song since leaving the band, dropped.

He’s very easy to find on Snapchat too. His username is “Zayn.” Many of his fans were thrilled he created an account, and flocked to Twitter to share the news with others.

While some people are excited to see Malik's debut as a solo artist, many were perturbed when he said he always wanted out of One Direction. “I think I always wanted to go, from the first year, really,” he told Beats 1 Radio’s Zane Lowe Wednesday, according to Hollywood Life. “I never really wanted to be there in the band, I just gave it a go because it was there at the time.”

He especially tired with the idea when he didn’t like the music they created. “When I realized the direction we were going in, mind the pun, with the music, I instantly realized it wasn’t for me because I couldn’t put any input in,” he said. “I had to start thinking about myself, I was always writing anyway even when I was in the band…I always knew.”

Aside from leaving the band, another change in his life came when he split from longtime girlfriend Perrie Edwards. But he didn’t wait too long before move on. Malik was soon tied to model Gigi Hadid. She appears in his new video for “Pillowtalk,” and it seems like the two are much more than friends.

Malik and Hadid "have been hanging out more and more lately, but they are not ready to announce to the public that they are an exclusive couple just yet, even though they have made it official between each other,” a source told E! News last month. "They were friends first and it has turned into more of a relationship at this point.”
