Perhaps he’s gearing up for the August premiere of the highly anticipated final season of “Breaking Bad.” Or maybe he’s just low-maintenance. But there’s no argument that Christian Bale appeared unrecognizable over the weekend with his new hair 'do.

The 39-year-old actor was spotted and photographed at LAX airport in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sunday, sporting a bald head, bearded face and Ray Ban sunglasses, resembling Bryan Cranston’s character on “Breaking Bad,” Walter White. Bale was traveling with his wife, Sibi Blazic, and 8-year-old daughter, Emmeline.

According to the New York Daily News, Bale shaved his head for the upcoming “American Hustle” and gained a few pounds for his role in the movie as a financial conman. He was traveling back to Los Angeles from New York City where the film, which also stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Robert DeNiro, was filming.

Of course, this is not the first time Bale has dramatically altered his appearance for a film role. The actor’s most shocking transformation was for 2004’s “The Machinist” where Bale shed 63 pounds for his character of the emaciated Trevor Reznik, who weighed a startling 121 pounds. Almost immediately after, Bale put on more than 100 pounds for his role as Batman in Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins.”

However, the shaved head may not be correlated to the film since photos from “American Hustle” posted on the Daily News show the actor sporting a 1970s style comb-over with corduroy suits.
