Costco Wholesale has issued a warning to 130,000 to 140,000 members, asking them to avoid using specific packages of Kirkland Signature Coarse Ground Malabar Black Pepper because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

On Thursday, Craig Wilson, Costco’s vice president for food safety, said the company had made phone calls to customers in response to the safety threat, NBC News reported. The calls were prompted by the Food and Drug Administration’s detection of Salmonella Duisburg in several pepper samples in Texas.

The ground black pepper bottles affected by the warning have a best-if-used-by date of March 2017. No illnesses have been reported in connection to the pepper, Wilson said.
