U.S. funds clean energy research with $377 Million

The U.S. Department of Energy announced Thursday that it has allocated $377 million in funding for research centers across the country to advance solar energy, biofuels, transportation, energy efficiency, electricity storage and transmission, clean coal and carbon capture and sequestration, and nuclear energy technologies.

Cash for Clunkers vote today

The U.S. Senate gathered to vote today on an extension of $2 billion for the Cash for Clunkers program, an initiative to boost auto sales and replace the U.S. fleet with more fuel efficient vehicles. The program is expected to pass before senators leave for the August break.

Oil declines below $72

Oil futures dropped below $72 a barrel Thursday in the New York Mercantile Exchange on increasing stockpiles of crude. Crude futures for September settled at $71.94 per barrel.
