Actress Dakota Fanning is currently in talks to play the role of Jane, the Volturi vampire in the Twilight sequel, New Moon, according to ExtraTV.com.

There were no auditions. They just offered it to her outright, and now they're in negotiations, reported E! Online.

Fervent Twilight fans have started an online petition and sent to Summit Entertainment to show their support for the decision.

The film is anticipated to be released in November and is scheduled to begin filming in Italy this spring.
