We’ve seen our fair share of surprising eliminations on “Dancing with the Stars,” but nothing shocked us quite like finding out who was sent home during Week 7 of the hit ABC show. The jaws of fans were left agape on Monday night after it was announced that “Hunger Games” actress Willow Shields, the youngest competitor in “DWTS” history, and her partner Mark Ballas were being sent home on Season 20 of the dancing series. And hear you me, their farewell was one of the most emotional eliminations we’ve witnessed thus far in the long-running competition.

“We are all sad. We are shocked,” co-host Erin Andrews said following the duo’s elimination. The judges then stood up, covering their mouths in disbelief that the young, spunky dancer had been cut from the competition.

“It is what it is,” Mark responded to getting the ax as his partner’s eyes welled with tears. “I want to say a big thank you to Willow for being incredible partner. I think she’s shown incredible improvement since Day 1, taking risks. She’s only 14, guys, and she’s out there dancing keeping up with everybody.”

Unable to respond to the heartbreaking elimination, the choked-up star was then consoled by co-host Tom Bergeron who put his hosting duties on hold for a moment to “be a dad.”

Willow proved she was a force to be reckoned with on Season 20 of “DWTS” -- especially during her final routine, which was performed during “Eras Night.” The couple took on the style of Futuristic Jazz soundtracked to the MGMT song “Electric Feel" and let’s just say, this exotic number should have earned the duo their black belts. The “Ninjazz” routine, which judge Julianne Hough described as intricate and clean, earned the duo a 37/40.

“I thought this was fantastic,” Julianne said. But unfortunately not even their incredible performance could prevent them from being sent home.

During a segment on “Good Morning America” Tuesday, Mark confessed that the 2015 installment of “DWTS” was his “proudest season.”

Willow then chimed in adding that it was “an accomplishment" to get as far as she did in the star-studded competition, which was full of athletic competitors. “I’ve come a long way,” the actress stated.
