The massive tornado swept the center of Joplin on Sunday, killing at more than 124 people and leaving many more missing. It was the worst single tornado in the United States in some 64 years.

The half-mile-wide twister with estimated wind speed of 190-198 mph destroyed somewhere between 10 percent to 30 percent of Joplin and around 2,000 structures, estimates the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency.

Officials increased the death toll in Joplin to 125, and about 750 people in the town of 50,000 were injured. The tornado is the eighth deadliest ever recorded in the US.
