The Nasdaq <.IXIC> and the S&P 500 <.SPX> indexes also traded in positive territory, with sentiment on technology shares lifted by results from BlackBerry maker Research In Motion

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 2.15 points, or 0.03 percent, to 7,975.93. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 2.09 points, or 0.25 percent, to 836.47. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 10.06 points, or 0.63 percent, to 1,612.69.
