Stocks fell on Thursday, with the Dow industrials down over 1 percent, after remarks from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi tempered hopes policymakers were priming a much-anticipated financial bazooka to tackle Europe's raging debt crisis.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 147.05 points, or 1.21 percent, to 12,049.32. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was off 19.35 points, or 1.53 percent, to 1,241.66. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> slid 29.11 points, or 1.10 percent, to 2,620.10.
