Elon Musk unveiled his plan for The Hyperloop on Monday, posting new details on his blog, followed by a press conference.

The Hyperloop is a new form of high-speed transportation that runs on solar energy and is less expensive and twice as fast as any other form of land travel.

Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, wants to provide an alternative to California’s High Speed rail, a project he deemed slow and expensive.

California's current plan is set to cost nearly $70 billion, while Musk’s Hyperloop will cost roughly $7.5 billion.

The Hyperloop will travel upward of 800 miles per hour and has the ability to transport someone from Los Angeles to San Francisco in just 30 minutes.

The Hyperloop consists of a series of train-like pods made out of aluminum set inside two steel tubes, with solar panels placed on top for power.
