In the Season 1 finale of "The Flash," Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanaugh), aka Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse Flash, was killed, or rather erased from existence, when Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) shot himself, thus eliminating the possibility of the future Thawne being born. At first, it seemed Wells would not be sticking around for Season 2. However, executive producer Gabrielle Stanton says not to count out the mysterious Wells.

"Harrison Wells will be back, but he's going to be a very different Harrison Wells than we've seen before," Stanton told TVLine. "We've got other worlds. We've got other timelines. All I'm going to say is he's from one of those places"

"The Flash" has proved that via time travel and alternate universes, the show can play things pretty fast and loose with continuity. After all, fans have seen Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) kiss and Wells kill Cisco (Carlos Valdes) only to see time reverse and the two events undone. Could the same happen for the death of Dr. Wells?

What makes Wells's return curious is that just a week ago, the CW announced it had tapped Tony Todd to play supervillain Zoom in new episodes. Comic fans know Zoom as Eobard Thawne, a fan of the Flash from the 25th century who develops the same powers by replicating the electrical jolt that gave Barry his super speed. He then uses that speed to travel into the past to meet his hero, but becomes mentally unstable in the process and decides to take on the Flash as his rival, thus becoming Reverse Flash (sometimes called Professor Zoom). If that sounds familiar, it's because Barry already spent Season 1 battling an Eobard Thawne who moonlighted as Reverse Flash -- Harrison Wells. The show's producers have teased that they will keep Zoom's show identity a mystery, but it would be hard to imagine the character's introduction is unreleated to Harrison Wells.
