Brazil authorities on Sunday detained the wife of former boxer Arturo Gatti, 37, as a suspect following his death at a resort in northern Brazil, the Associated Press reported.

Amanda Rodrigues, 23 is being held because of contradictions when she was interrogated, Ap said.

Gatti was found dead in a hotel room at Porto de Galinhas resort on Saturday, according to the report.

He was found with wounds to his neck and head, police said, according to Reuters. A spokeswoman for the Pernanmbuco state civil police said Gattia was apparently strangled with the strap of a purse, found with blood stains on the scene, according to AP.

The pair arrived with their son at Porto de Galinhas resort South of the city of Recife on Friday, according to Reuters.
