Former Democratic Senator John Edwards admitted today that he fathers a girl with Rielle Hunter, a videographer that was hired during his presidential campaign.

Although in August 2008 Edwards admitted an affair with Hunter, he denied that he was the girl's father. The girl, Frances Quinn Hunter, will be two years old in February.

I am Quinn's father, Edwards said in a statement, according to the Associated Press.

It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me, Edwards said.

Edwards says in the statement that he will do everything in his power to provide the girl with the love and support she deserves.

The statement comes shortly before a book from former campaign aide Andrew Young is released. The book which will be out on Feb. 2 details the scandal and how Edwards hid his paternity.
