Members of the royal family are also gushing about the chubby-cheeked baby who will celebrate his first birthday Tuesday. Pippa Middleton, the sister (and maid of honor) of Kate, opened up about Prince George in a rare interview with Matt Lauer on “The Today Show,” saying “it’s wonderful” to be aunt to Prince George.

“He’s amazing. He’s very a dear boy. He’s brought a lot of pleasure and fun for all us, the whole family,” she said. “He’s very characterful. He’s sort of brought us all together and we love spending weekends with him. He’s very funny.”

Prince Harry joked with the media days after his nephew’s birth, saying he will “make sure he has fun.”

When asked what he plans to do as an uncle, Harry said: "To make sure he has a good upbringing, and keep him out of harm's way and to make sure he has fun. The rest I'll leave to the parents."

“It's fantastic to have another addition to the family,” he continued. “I only hope my brother knows how expensive my babysitting charges are."

Just this past June, Prince Harry was speaking to Virginia Araya, a presenter on national radio station Infinita, and compared George to Winston Churchill.

“I asked him what George was like,” Araya said. “He said: 'He’s growing up, he is walking and he has big, chubby cheeks. He looks like a young Winston Churchill.”

Days after the birth of Prince George, Prince Charles of Wales told well-wishers he is “pleased as punch” with his “wonderful” first grandchild. Charles also said George is “a very good name,” though he admitted he will likely call him by his unofficial nickname.

“He’ll be known as Georgie in no time,” Charles said.

The Daily Mail reported Charles told a young fan, “It’s fun to be a grandfather.”

In an official statement released on behalf of Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the couple said they were excited to be grandparents.

"Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild," the statement read. "It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy. Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."

Grandmother Carole Middleton got a glimpse of baby George just before her daughter and Prince William emerged on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital before the family’s first photo call. When exiting the hospital, Middleton told reporters: "He's absolutely beautiful. We're so thrilled."
