With the action in Season 5 of “Game of Thrones” heading to Dorne, Braavos and other new cities, there will be a bunch of new characters debuting when the show returns in the spring. However, fans might be more excited by a new face on an old character. HBO reportedly has cast an actress in the role of a young Cersei Lannister.

Cersei, played throughout the series by Lena Headey, apparently will be the subject of a flashback in the new episodes. Flashbacks have never been used before on the series, but in October it was revealed the show would snap back in time. In the new scene, a young Cersei will visit an old woman named Maggy the Frog. Nell Williams, who played Jess on the British comedy “The Revolting World of Stanley Brown,” will play the young Cersei. Williams and Headey can be seen side by side here.

The news comes on the heels of the announcement that the Season 5 trailer will debut during the theatrical Imax release of the final two episodes of Season 4 on Jan. 23.

It appears that Season 5 will be a busy one for the former queen of Westeros. In addition to her flashback, Cersei is the focus of a controversial scene in which she will be naked and shaved on a "penance walk" after being found guilty of conspiracy. The scene was filmed with tight security and much secrecy to prevent images of Headey leaking out.

Will Cersei’s difficulties inspire the flashback to her youth? Fans will have to wait to find out. Season 5 of “Game of Thrones” is set to premiere on HBO in the spring.
