In a bizarre incident a six-year-old girl from San Antonio was found dead in a large old microwave oven in her family's backyard on Saturday night.

The young girl identified as Rebecca Maria Herrera, daughter of a San Antonio Police Department bicycle patrol officer, went missing on Saturday around 7 p.m. from her east-side home. Police and neighbors launched an intensive search of the neighborhood. Rebecca's brother found her body in a microwave in their backyard around 10 p.m.

The police are treating the incident as an accidental sudden death. They believe Rebecca climbed into the microwave and in some way became trapped.

Neighbors of the victim's family express their heartfelt condolences and said that they were shocked at the incident.

"I heard somebody yell, 'I found her,' and then I heard crying. I am shocked. I thought she was OK. I've never seen anything like this," said Stephanie Almendarez, a mother of five who lives across the street from the Herreras.
