Grace Groner, a woman who lived in a one- bedroom house in Lake Forest and never showed signs of owning a fortune, donated $7 million to Illinois' Lake Forest College when she died.

Groner used to have few plain pieces of furniture, some mismatched dishes and a hulking TV set at her home, according to the Chicago Tribune. She died in January at age 100.

Her donation will go to a scholarship program in Lake Forest College for students to pursue internships and study-abroad programs, according to the paper.

Groner graduated from Lake Forest College, a liberal arts school in 1931. She made her fortune after purchasing three $60 stocks of Abbot Laboratories in 1935.

She never married or had children.
