Christopher Dudus Coke, the prominent Jamaican drug lord, has been sentenced to the maximum prison term of 23 years in the U.S.

Coke, whose capture by police in 2010 in Kingston, Jamaica, led to the deaths of dozens of people, originally plead guilty to drug and gun-trafficking charges in August of that year.

Reportedly, Coke was able to run his huge drug operation over the years with help from Jamaican political elites. Indeed, former Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding initially fought his extradition to the U.S.
